10:17 pm - "Исудзу"

charissebv

So I have a question that I'm really hopping you guys can help me out with...

I've been playing a lot of Team Fortress lately and for whatever reason I feel like at least 60% of the time I end up loosing connection to the host before the game is over. It usually starts with just a little bit of lag but it almost always gets worse. It's pretty infuriating. I usually only get through a few games, not to mention how long it take to find one that's worth playing, before giving up in frustration. So my question is this, are the connection issues on my end or is this something that other TF players experience? And if it is me, as I suspect that it is, is there anything I can do about it? I almost never have connection issues on COD4, which I've been playing pretty regularly too so I'm not sure what to do.

Any help would be great guys.

Hey guys, does anyone here live in New Jersey? If you do, there is an awesome new game store called Play N Trade there, it's on the corner of Rt 9 & Union Hill Rd, in the Exclusive Plaza.

I've been there a few times and they are so much better than EBGames or GAMEstop. First of all, the guy who owns it actualy knows a lot about games, and he'll talk to you about them, and he can reccomend great games. They have games from every system from Wii, to old school systems like NES and even Atari. They also take trade ins for old games and they give a much better price than EB or GAMEStop. It's an indivudialy owned store, not a corporate store, so they aren't pushy, they don't have any quota's to meet or anything like that.

They also have a service that no other store has......DISC REPAIR. They have a huge industrial disc resurfacer that they can use to fix any disc, whether its a game, a cd, or a dvd...and it only costs $3. I had a game that wasn't working that I was going to toss, but I took it there and now it works!!!

Another cool thing that they do is that they let you play the game in the store if you want. They have consoles set up where if you ask, they can put in just about any game that they have in stock and you can play it for a few minutes to see if you like it. (FOR FREEEEEEEE) Where else can you do that?

The owner also told me that they are planning a HALO 3 TOURNAMENT!!!!!!!! for Feb 9. First place will be like a $75 gift certificate and they will have free pizza and food and 10% off anything used in the store

I just got word back from EA about the free game to make up for the delay in the replacement guitar shipment.

As expected, the list is heavily-laden with sports games, although to be fair they are at least the '08 ones which are actually sought after by the sort who seek such things.

There is a bit of variety, though. Here's the list:

Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
Fifa Soccer 08
Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix
Medal of Honor Airborne
Nascar 08
NBA Live 08
Need for Speed: Pro Street
NHL 08
Rock Band
skate.
The Simpsons
The Sims 2 Deluxe
Tiger Woods 08

Everything is offered on multiple platforms (I assume every platform the game's available on, though I didn't bother checking).

The only ones I'm remotely interested in are C&C 3, The Simpsons and skate... but not that interested in them. I'll probably consult with a friend who works at Gamestop for what'll get me the best trade-in value.

EDIT: At my friend's suggestion, I got Need For Speed for the PS3.

11:04 pm - BK Games

drackenstein
New to the community. Hi all. Anyway, I managed to snag copies of Pocket Bike Racer and Big Bumpin' the BK games that came out a couple years back and was wondering if any body else owns these games and ever actually plays them on Live. I know it seems silly to ask 'cause they're BK games but it would be nice to actually play these things online sometime and so far I've only found one random gamer online. In any case the games are tons better than that free Yaris game thats available and a nice break from rounds of Gears.

My gamertag is the same as on here so hit me up if you happen to get one of these.

11:29 pm - About the old Xbox?

ex_steelfeat514
I need a little help because I know nothing about Xbox's.

Bought a second hand Xbox (NOT A 360). It's chipped and has a larger Harddrive than normal. However it never came with a manual but luckily me and my Dad figured (with a little help from the net sites) out how to delete games from the Dashboard. Some of the games on the Harddrive we want to keep but they have saves on them. Is there any way to delete the game saves without deleteing the games?

Also I have some Emulators and Games on a DVD-RW, which I was given and transfer to my PC to play, is there any way of transfering them to the Xbox Harddrive so we can play games like the SNES Shadowrun on a SNES Emulator? The Xbox did have some Emulators but they didn't work so I deleted them.

Note: We won't be connecting the Xbox up to the Internet. We only have dial up at the moment because of a fault on the phoneline so it'd be impossible.

Thanks for the help!

11:40 am - Movies

ocean_depths
Hi. I have what is (hopefully) a very simple question. If you want me to shut up and go away, feel free to say so.

I have an avi file on my pc. It happens to be a rip of Airplane 2, and I have since chucked the dvd - who needs all those discs lyin' around anyways? I want to play it on an xbox 360, preferably via a dvd. Can anyone give me the easy way? Pretty please? I have loads of software - including one to convert from avi to vob but that won't work in this case - audio seems to be a lil screwy :( Apart from that pretty much anything goes!

Many thanks,
James

12:07 pm - Radio Show Tonight

psykoboy2
Well, it's Friday and tonight at 7pm central we go on the air with a radio show...name or not.

I've been talking about this show over at my own journal, but for those who are curious, it'll be about gaming, movies, and just geek shit in general. Plus, we'll have a give away tonight as well.

If you want to listen to the show, here's how:

Go to http://www.1170wacv.com and then click on the listen live link on the left of the page (should be under the "EEO Report"). If that doesn't work, try pasting this link into your iTunes player or windows media player:

http://streamer2.webstream.net/wacv

Okay, now for the phone numbers. If you wanna call in, 334-272-9228 or try 800-289-9228, although I think the 800 number is probably in-state only (Alabama).

There's a chat room that will be available. It's all flash based I think so no install is needed, however, if you do use the chat room, make your LJ name as what you use in there so I know who you are. The chat room is here: http://www.bapenguin.com/chat.php

That's about it. If there's any questions, just reply and we'll try and work them out for you. And again, spread the word if you want and thanks for the support and listening as well.

Official OXM Ratings in the USA
Gears of War 10
Halo 9.5
Halo 2 9.7
Halo 2 Multiplayer Pack 9.0

I know some people here MUST read the Official X-Box Magazine... I'd be stupid NOT to assume that.

Anyway, the OXM rated Gears of War 10... a rating Halo and Halo 2 deserve but have never received. OXM has always claimed Halo and Halo 2 to be the best games ever... but since their rating of Gears of War, it's kinda been irking me so I wrote this letter to OXM... I know I am SO going to get flamed for this. LOL.

Hey, everybody I'm new to the group and have to say that I love it. When I first got my x-box a couple of years ago it was only for Knights Of The Old Republic and one or two other games....Now I have just as many x-box games as I do PS1 and PS2 ones.

I run a website with my best friend and we are currently running a video game awards section. http://www.animecauldron.com/vgdiva/chibiusa/chibiusa

6:13 pm - How fast until Xbox original games stop being made?

davefromsuisun
I just bought a used Xbox (NOT 360) after owning a junky Gamecube for a couple years. I've hated the Gamecube and its game portfolio ever since I bought it, and now that I have an Xbox and a few decent games I feel like a man who's been given water after dying of thirst. Well, maybe that's an exageration, but needless to say Xbox is badass.

Here's my concern: I've essentially bought an obsolete system -- AGAIN. But, damn, even at my age with the dollars I pull down I can't justify buying an Xbox 360 at a price that is twice the price, with all the bells and whistles, I paid for my PC.

So does any gamer know how long I've got until they stop making Xbox original games?

Anyone here got any experience troubleshooting mods?

I've got a solderless Executer chip. I wanna say it's the 2.3b lite plus or maybe 2.4b? First generation Xbox. I've had the box chipped for several years. Back when I originally chipped it there was a problem and I had to ground it by using a wire to connect the screw holding the chip down to another screw on the motherboard. I don't think that's relevant, just throwing it out there. Oh, and it's got the little board stuck to the bottom of the front of the Xbox that lets me turn it on and off.

Anyways, I just finally got around to hooking my Xbox up since we moved about a month ago and the mod chip's not working. Prior to messing with it, when the chip was on the Xbox would just boot regularly. Being solderless, it's rather senstive to being jarred and so I opened the Xbox up and realigned the chip. Now, however, the Xbox won't boot at all with it on. It turns on once, shuts off, turns on a second time, shuts off, then it turns on the third time and FRAGs.

Thankfully, it still boots when the chip is turned off.

Any ideas on what I might try? I think I remember getting this kind of problem before, but it's been so long and I've been out of the loop so I don't even know the first place to look.

Anyone have one of those 2 day free xbox live codes? Our 360 at work just ran out of time on the Live account and the boss (and his credit card) won't be back till tomorrow.

Thanks in advance for the help!

So with an unfortunate lack of decent games for the 360 out (a man can't live on DoA alone), rather than once more let my desperation yield financial tragedy (as it did when I purchased Perfect Dark Zero, which I hated, Rumble Roses XX, which I hated and was horrible anyways, and Kameo, which wasn't too bad but not my sort of game) and go the obvious route of getting the much-hyped Oblivion (which also isn't my sort of game), I've been trawling the backwards comapitibility list. I've ordered Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds online (can't find it locally), and I just today got Goblin Commander, Stubbs the Zombie and Raze's Hell. I wanted to get Aliens vs. Predator: Extinction as well, but that was also difficult to locate in a physical store.

I haven't tried Goblin Commander yet.

I played Raze's Hell for about 20-30 minutes. It's really surprisingly decent for a budget game. Decent graphics, standard gameplay, but absolutely hilarious and well-pulled off theme, which is a not-so-thinly veiled satire of the current status of American politics. To wit, Kewtopia is a land of cute happy people who live with constant sunshine and happiness. It works for them, too, as they're wealthy and abundant. One day the Princess of Kewtopia declares that all the Kewties should go forth and spread their wonderful way of life to the ignorant, ugly beings. Raze returns to his village and can "only watch in shock and awe" (actual quote from game) as his people are slaughtered. The disgustingly cute enemies can be heard saying, in high-pitched voices reminiscent of any kid's show, things like "Why are you running away, we're saving you!" as they gun the poor bastards down.

Overall, amazingly good design for a budget title. The controls and gameplay aren't incredible, but they're way better than you'd expect for the price tag, and probably on par with some of the shoddier big budget games.

The real reason I'm writing, though, is to praise Stubbs the Zombie: Rebel without a Pulse. I've been eyeing this game for quite a long time, and holy crap is it fun. I mean, there are a lot of games of late that I've enjoyed, but I can't honestly remember the last time a game has just been this much FUN to play. It's built on the Halo engine, so everything works really well and intuitively, but the real star of the game is the humor. It's set in the 1950s, where an Americanized former-nazi scientist, funded by "America's favorite rags-to-riches story," Andrew Monday, has created the world of the 21st century, today! Picture a retro-futuristic version of small-town America, complete with all the hover cars and robots you'd expect, but with a zombie. So far, I've seen no explanation for WHY there's a zombie.

It's quite a lot of fun... everyone that you kill gets up after a few moments and becomes another zombie, which you can sort of control by shoving or whistling, but they mostly just shamble around and attack other people. It's quite awesome watching a horde of zombies fight and convert a horde of humans.

As I said, though, the real star of the game is the humor. Take, for example, this cutscene: Two police officers in a cruiser pull up to a gas pump. The pump sprouts arms and mosies on up to them, making small talk. It goes something like this:

Pump: What'll it be?
Driver: Fill 'er up.
Pump: Alright, extra leaded?
Driver: Crap, I forgot my wallet.
Pump: Don't worry, it's on the house!
Driver: Oh, you don't have to do that.
Pump: No, it's fine. On the house.

The pump then gets right up to the gas tank, reaches down and a zipper-like sound can be heard. It's done rather subtly, and for a moment you're thinking to yourself "No... no, they're not. oh my god. They are." as the pump slowly starts rocking back and forth. The officers react with a combination of surprise and disgust. I realize this probably sounds really cheesy, but it's done incredibly well (and as tastefully as something like this can be done) and you gotta see it for yourself.

What can I say? Good graphics, awesome game play, awesome humor, awesome setting, awesome price ($35 used). I can't reccomend it highly enough.

Cross posted a couple different places.

Girls attempt real-life version of video game
Residents alarmed; teens could be charged
Beacon Journal staff report

Five teenage girls from Portage County face potential criminal charges after attempting to play a real-life version of Super Mario Bros.

The Portage County Hazardous Materials Unit and Bomb Detection Unit were called in to downtown Ravenna on Friday morning after seventeen suspicious packages -- boxes wrapped in gold wrapping paper with question marks spray painted on them -- had alarmed residents.

Boxes were found at the Immaculate Conception Church on West Main Street, the Portage County Courthouse, Deluxe Pastries, the corner of Cherry Way and Main Street, Reed Memorial Library, Ravenna High School and a residence at Sanford and Main streets.

Five girls -- age 16 and 17 -- claimed responsibility for making and placing the packages. The girls said they found an Internet site that included step-by-step instructions for creating replicas of blocks featured in the game.

The Ravenna Police Department will be working with the Portage County Prosecutor's Office regarding possible criminal charges as a result of the game.
